Hardwood Maintenance Tips

  • Never use Murphy's Oil Soap, Orange Glow, lemon oil, or the like! It will make re-coating your floor next to impossible and leave behind a dull residue.

  • Light damp mop only. Never use a rag mop. Make sure you know what your housekeeper is using--we have seen many floors ruined by an untrained housekeeper.

  • Keep throw rugs at entry doors to catch grit. Watch for wear in heavy traffic areas. Call your flooring contractor when it's time to re-coat.

  • Preventative maintenance is key. A properly maintained floor can last for generations to come. Re-coating periodically (3-5 years depending on use) costs considerably less than refinishing and can be done, in most cases, in a single day rather than a week of complete refinishing.
